Welcome to my Blog, a Crafting Year

Hello
I taught myself to knit in 2011 I have been posting photos of my knitting creations on facebook but as I am starting to bore my friends I have created this blog to record my progress. Then I thought I might try my hand at other crafts and see how I get along. I will try a different craft every month and you can read about my successes and failures and even laugh at my photos as I try different things like felting, crochet, sewing, papercrafts etc and try and make a few things from the kids favourite book Star Wars crafts, amongst others...lets see how it goes

big letters

I was reading Making magazine and saw a lovely idea for using up odds & ends of wool. They had taken a cardboard letter and wrapped wool around it using only a glue gun. It looked really effective so I bought some letters and a glue gun and decided to give it a go.
Except that my children were horrified by the idea of a wool letter and wanted a comic one instead.

So out came the papier mache skills once again or decoupage if you are a grown up!

I bought a plain cardboard letter for £2

Marvel comics I bought a job lot on ebay which was much cheaper £5 for 5 comics

I used pva glue which I watered down to about 50:50

 Then just got gluing

Here is Jacob's finished Incredible Hulk

My nephew Ben's Bash St Kids

My nephew Jakes Dennis the Menace

And nephew Joseph's Banana man

I quite liked the gluing and it was very quick & effective so I went to town a bit on my niece Orla's letter

I had lots of pink tissue paper

Found some ribbons and my butterfly cutter

In fact I think I got a bit carried away but she is 5 and totally loved it.

I still have to do Comic ones for my other 2 boys and may manage to sneak a wool one in somewhere around the house.....
