Saturday morning at 9:30am I had to scrape the ice off the car which was telling me it was -7C before I drove the 20 odd miles to Andover for the crochet class.
Gorgeous day though with lovely sunshine and as always at Love Yarn I was greeted with a cup of tea. Perfect.
Our task for this week was to make a crochet sampler using lots of different stitches
including double, half treble, treble, double treble.
The sides aren't straight as I seem to be missing picking up the end stitches but its a first attempt and I am very pleased with it.
So a project is needed and as its nearly valentines day I found this blog
http://sandra-cherryheart.blogspot.com/2011/06/granny-heart-bunting.html
and decided to try and make this
Sandra not only provided a free pattern but also a picture tutorial.
I will admit it was a bit difficult so I took the pattern to Jill who runs the crochet class and she showed me how to do the stitches
Here are my attempts
Its not the neatest but practise is key so...
Practise I will...
Looking good Sharon, have you seen the Royal Sisters Grandma Hearts
ReplyDeletehttp://theroyalsisters.blogspot.com/2009/12/grandma-hearts-tutorial.html, they don't have the picot edging and make up really quickly. You'll also find blocking them at the end helps with the shape, I pin mine out on a folded up towel and then use a water spray to set them. Leave overnight to dry or sometimes I use spray starch to make them stiffer. I also saw this for you http://craftsnob.com/2012/01/peyote-stitch-part-1/ for another month.
thanks Sasha, I am currently finishing the granny squares as Noah wants me to make them into a blanket for him. I am googling edging to make it up. Thanks for the top tip on blocking.
ReplyDeleteLove the peyote stitch, I can see everyone getting them for xmas lol!
Can't wait until you are back then we can have crafting days woohoo!!
